Big news! China's largest oil field is born, the largest crude oil production base!

Jinzhou 25-1 South, Asia's largest offshore platform located in the Bohai Bay, is the largest offshore crude oil and natural gas transportation center in northern my country. Today, the oil and gas production here has reached a peak again.

On January 9, China National Offshore Oil Corporation announced that the crude oil production of Bohai Oilfield, my country's largest offshore oilfield, reached 30.132 million tons in 2021, making it my country's largest crude oil production base. The increase in crude oil accounted for nearly 50% of the national increase, delivering a brilliant answer to ensure national energy security in the first year of the 14th Five-Year Plan.

Bohai Oilfield was founded in 1965. It is the birthplace of my country's offshore oil industry and the main oilfield with the highest output, largest scale and best benefits carefully cultivated by CNOOC. In the more than 50 years since it was put into production, it has discovered more than 4.4 billion tons of proven geological reserves of oil and nearly 500 billion cubic meters of geological reserves of natural gas, and has contributed more than 493 million tons of oil and gas to the motherland, making important contributions to ensuring national energy security and promoting economic and social development.

Especially since the full implementation of the "Seven-Year Action Plan" for increasing oil and gas reserves and production in 2019, Bohai Oilfield has successively discovered four billion-ton oil and gas fields, namely Bozhong 19-6, Kenli 6-1, Kenli 10-2 and Bozhong 13-2, and produced a total of 85.353 million tons of crude oil and 9.15 billion cubic meters of natural gas in three years. At present, the oilfield has more than 50 producing oil and gas fields and more than 180 production facilities. It has built a comprehensive oil and gas production base covering three provinces and one city around Bohai Sea, integrating exploration and development, engineering construction, and production operation.

01. The completion of the "Offshore Daqing" of Bohai Oilfield

 

 

Bohai Oilfield was established in 1965. In January 1966, the Ministry of Petroleum Industry approved the establishment of the Marine Exploration Command. In the same year, the Chinese finally built a pile-foundation steel structure fixed drilling platform in the sea, the No. 1 drilling platform, just like building a concrete house.

 

 

On the last day of 1966, the Bohai Oilfield finally drilled the "Hai 1 Well" with a depth of 2,441 meters. This was the first industrial oil-flowing well in my country's offshore. On June 14, 1967, the "Hai 1 Well" gushed oil, and the State Council sent a congratulatory message.

 

 

Fighting tsunamis, storms, sea ice, and learning advanced offshore experience from foreign countries... The initial exploration of Bohai Oilfield was full of hardships. It was not until February 15, 1982 that China National Offshore Oil Corporation was established. The cooperation with foreign countries to develop offshore oil was recognized by the country.

 

 

In 1983, based on the Offshore Oil Exploration Bureau, the Bohai Oil Company of China National Offshore Oil Corporation was established. The Bohai Oilfield ushered in an upbeat youth era and issued the "Bohai Four Consecutive Strikes":

 

 

First strike: Development of Chengbei Oilfield

This is the first foreign cooperation of CNOOC and a modern oil field with international style.

Commercial production began in Area B of Chengbei Oilfield.

Second strike: Construction of the Bohai Friendship

This is the first floating production storage and offloading vessel designed and built independently in my country. In July 1989, the "Bohai Friendship" was put into use in the Bohai Oilfield, successfully achieving a zero breakthrough in the construction of floating production storage and offloading vessels in my country.

The design and construction of "Bohai Friendship" reached the world's advanced level at that time, won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and was included in the "Top Ten Famous Ships".

The third strike: Development of Bohai 28-1 oilfield

This was the first oil field independently contracted and constructed by China. In July 1990, the foreign party transferred the oil field operation rights to China.

Working with foreign parties and learning from foreign parties, from "copying homework" to doing homework on its own, Bohai Oilfield has learned three key strategies through cooperation with foreign companies.

The fourth strike: Refining "optimal and fast drilling"

Qikou 18-1 Oilfield is the birthplace of "optimal and fast drilling". In August 1995, Bohai Oilfield officially launched the "optimal and fast" drilling and completion project. The three test production wells shortened the original average drilling cycle of 57 days to 18.8 days. The fastest well took only 13.3 days, saving a lot of money.

02. The confidence behind the stable production for ten years is a new discovery

In 2018, Bohai Oilfield proposed to maintain a stable production of 30 million tons for another 10 years on the existing basis, helping China National Offshore Oil Corporation to maintain a stable production scale of 50 million tons.

Why do we dare to propose a stable production of 30 million in 10 years? Because Bohai Oilfield has made several large oil and gas discoveries in recent years.

Xue Yongan, chief exploration engineer of CNOOC Tianjin Branch, said that the geological structure of the Bohai Bay Basin is complex, like a "golden plate" that fell to the ground, broke into pieces and was stepped on a few times. The oil reservoirs are distributed very scattered and complex, and there is a layer of sea water between them, making exploration and development more difficult.

In order to find these scattered oil reservoirs, Bohai Oilfield has continuously liberated its thinking and applied the concepts of "stereoscopic exploration", "clustered exploration", "combined exploration" and "value exploration" to continuously increase the proven reserves. After entering the "13th Five-Year Plan", Bohai Oilfield innovatively proposed the "lake basin gas formation" theory and the "convergent ridge" reservoir formation theory, and discovered several billion-ton oil and gas fields, laying a solid reserve foundation for building my country's largest crude oil production base.

Zhao Chunming, chief development engineer of CNOOC Tianjin Branch, said that the Bohai oilfield not only has scattered oil reservoirs, but also has high crude oil viscosity and is mainly composed of heavy oil reservoirs. It is extremely difficult to economically and efficiently develop these "low-edge and heavy" oil fields.

To this end, CNOOC has carried out three consecutive "optimal and fast drilling" improvement operations since the 1990s, reducing the average drilling cycle from 57 days to less than 10 days, increasing drilling efficiency by 6 to 7 times, and breaking through the key bottleneck for the rapid development of Bohai Oilfield. Since then, represented by the optimal and fast drilling and completion technology, the reservoir description technology, geological numerical modeling and modeling technology, engineering construction technology, and comprehensive adjustment technology in production oil fields in Bohai Oilfield have reached the world's advanced or domestic leading level. Taking the "cluster well" adjustment and production increase as an example, in response to the difficulties of high density of well networks and high collision risks in the development of large and medium-sized offshore oil and gas fields, Bohai Oilfield has developed a comprehensive optimization of offshore cluster well group platform positions and extreme well slot allocation technology, which enables one platform to drill 88 wells, making the underground well network seem to have "a broom inserted inside a broom", and high-precision drilling and safety control have reached the world's advanced level.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, Bohai Oilfield has made important breakthroughs in the application of new technologies such as geophysical technology, intelligent injection technology, oil production technology, large-scale thermal recovery of heavy oil, shore power, and intelligent oilfields. These achievements indicate that my country's offshore exploration and development technology has reached world-class level.

03. Ensure oil and gas production reaches 40 million tons by 2025

Domestic crude oil production growth depends on offshore, and offshore crude oil production growth depends on Bohai. Yan Hongtao, general manager of CNOOC Tianjin Branch, told reporters: "During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Bohai Oilfield will promote the "Seven-Year Action Plan" with high quality, and build Bohai Oilfield into a benchmark energy base integrating exploration and development integration, engineering construction standardization, oil and gas production intelligence, and lean operation and management. We will strive to achieve major breakthroughs in exploration, hard growth in crude oil, and great development of natural gas, and ensure that oil and gas production will reach 40 million tons by 2025."

As my country's largest offshore oil and gas producer, CNOOC has ranked first among the three major oil companies in terms of domestic crude oil production growth for three consecutive years. Offshore oil and gas production has become an important support for ensuring national energy security. In 2021, CNOOC produced 48.64 million tons of crude oil domestically, an increase of 3.23 million tons year-on-year, accounting for about 80% of the total increase in domestic crude oil.

Wang Dongjin, Chairman of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, said that China National Offshore Oil Corporation will vigorously promote the "reserve increase and production increase project, scientific and technological innovation foundation strengthening project, and green development leapfrog project", continue to increase investment in exploration and development, and further play the important role of offshore oil and gas production increase in ensuring the safe and stable supply of my country's oil and gas resources and reducing dependence on foreign countries, so as to keep the energy rice bowl firmly in our own hands.
