The first phase of the 1.2 million tons ethylene plant at the Zhenhai base was successfully started up!

On January 7, the 1.2 million tons/year ethylene unit of the first phase of the Sinopec Zhenhai Base project produced qualified products. So far, the first phase of the Zhenhai Base project has completed the overall start-up, marking the full operation of the 27 million tons/year refining and 2.2 million tons/year ethylene units of Zhenhai Refining and Chemical.

The first phase of the Zhenhai base project includes the country's first fully domestically produced million-ton ethylene project. It took only 15 months from the start of on-site civil construction to final delivery, and only 22 months to produce qualified ethylene products, setting new records for the shortest construction period for domestic million-ton ethylene projects, the highest degree of localization, and the widest digital application, with continuous safe man-hours exceeding 57 million.

The project includes 11 units including the ethylene unit, as well as supporting public works and auxiliary facilities. On December 26, 2021, the ethylene unit completed the target of material commissioning. During the commissioning period, with the strong support of the headquarters' Chemical Division, Refining Division, Engineering Department, Material Equipment Department and other departments, and the joint efforts of the Engineering Construction Company, Tenth Construction Company and other participating units, Zhenhai Refining and Chemical coordinated the command, gave full play to the combat advantages of the large army, and in accordance with the established plan, carried out fine operations, and steadily promoted the start-up of public works and supporting process units, the ignition of cracking furnaces and other key nodes, and opened up the entire system and the entire process. On January 7, 2022, the cracking furnace was put into operation. After 6 hours of fine and stable operation, the ethylene unit successfully produced qualified products, setting a new record for the start-up of the ethylene unit.

After the completion and commissioning of the first phase of the Zhenhai base project, Zhenhai Refining and Chemical will further adjust the structure of refined products, optimize ethylene and aromatics raw materials, and realize the deep integration of refining, ethylene and aromatics production based on the market demand and the principle of maximizing benefits, and will optimize ethylene and aromatics raw materials according to the crude oil processing volume and crude oil properties. It will give full play to the overall advantages of the 27 million tons/year refining and 2.2 million tons/year ethylene units, comprehensively enhance the international competitiveness of the Zhenhai base, steadily promote the construction of a world-class, high-tech, integrated green petrochemical base, and make new contributions and achievements for Sinopec to shoulder the three core responsibilities, build a world-leading clean energy chemical company, and promote the transformation and upgrading of the national petrochemical industry.
